Crashes: How does a car seat protect my child in a crash?
In a motor vehicle collision, there are actually three collisions. The first is the collision between the motor vehicle and another vehicle or object. The second happens when the passengers either strike the interior of the vehicle, or are thrown from it. A third collision occurs as internal organs keep moving and collide with bones or each other. A car seat that is properly installed and used is designed to hold the child in the car and spread the force of the impact over the stronger parts of the child’s body, increasing the chances of avoiding death or serious injury in a crash by up to 70 percent.

The best or safest car seat to protect your child in the event of a crash or sudden stop is one that fits your child’s size and weight, fits in your vehicle tightly and is used the right way every time.
